The fourth biennial Ruth Borchard Self-Portrait Prize is now accepting submissions.

Entries can be made through the portal in the Prize section of the Ruth Borchard website.

120 artists will be selected from the initial entrants for an exhibition, at Piano Nobile Kings Place from 18 May until 22 September 2017. A £10,000 Prize will be awarded to the winner selected by a prestigious panel of judges including Alistair Sooke (BBC Broadcaster and Art Critic, The Daily Telegraph), Dr Nicholas Cullinan (Director, National Portrait Gallery), Charlotte Mullins (art critic and author), Marilyn Scott (Director, The Lightbox Gallery), Shanti Panchal (winner in 2015), and Richard Borchard, Ruth Borchard’s son. Previous winners of the Prize include Celia Paul (2011), Thomas Newbolt (2013), and Shanti Panchal (2015).

The 2015 Prize saw an unprecedented number of submissions and a record for works purchased for the Next Generation Collection. The Next Generation Collection currently consists of 68 self-portraits and is continually growing, brought together through purchases from the biennial Ruth Borchard Self-Portrait Prize. A number of works from the 2017 Prize will be bought to add to the Collection. The Next Generation Collection was shown in its entirety, alongside a selection from the Original Collection, over summer 2016 at Piano Nobile Kings Place, and frequently tours venues in the UK and Ireland.

The 2017 Museum Partner for the Prize will be The Lightbox, Woking.  The Original Collection will be exhibited at The Lightbox from 25 March until 25 June 2017.

The submission window is open until midday 12 April 2017.
