Colin Davidson
The Day I Heard that Mark Hollis Had Died, 2019Colin Davidson is an Irish based contemporary artist whose figurative work has won him widespread acclaim. With his heavy brushstrokes and purposefully imprecise application, Davidson’s portraits give the impression of capturing the subject in a transient moment. Completing life like portraits of iconic figures, such as Ed Sheeran and Queen Elizabeth II, Davidson's work is now represented in insitutions across the globe. Impelled by Ruth Borchard's ethos Davidson submitted a work into the 2019 Self-Portrait Prize. Shifting the focus back onto himself the work marked a reversal in Davidson’s mainstay subject matter and is now held by the National Gallery of Ireland
