Biography

Susan Light studied Art at the Central School of Art and Design and Leeds Polytechnic from 1972 to 1976. Light went on to study an MA at San Francisco State University from 1981 to 1983. Throughout her career, Light has exhibited her work extensively. She has shown her paintings in galleries including North House Gallery, Cadogan Gallery in London and El Museo de Orense in Spain. Light has been commissioned to create works for House of Fraser, McKinsey Consulting, Forum and Sheraton Park Hotels. Light's New Specs (2011) was acquired by Ruth Borchard Collection in 2011. Since 2006, Light has instructed pupils in Drawing at Middlesex University.

Light's works exist within the narrative and realist traditions in painting. Light draws on traditional painting techniques in order to create contemporary allegories for modern life. Light's New Specs captures the artist at work, nude beneath her painting apron, gazing out at the viewer, her painting hand unfinished, as though too caught up in the process of creation to be fully articulated.
