Stefan John Orlowski

Born in 1985, Stefan John Orlowski studied Fine Art at Aberystwyth University and Wimbledon College of Art. Upon graduating, Orlowski was awarded the Lynn Painter-Stainers Young Artist Award. In 2014, Orlowski was appointed as Artist in Residence for the Trelex Residency Program in Switzerland. Orlowski has since exhibited his works throughout England at galleries such as the Mall Galleries, The Brewery Arts Centre and Heaton Cooper Studio. Most recently, Orlowski held a solo exhibition at Brantwood Museum in Coniston. Orlowski's Polish Reflections was acquired by Ruth Borchard Collection in 2011.

Orlowski is a figurative painter. Orlowski's work holds up both a mirror and a magnifying glass to his models, scrutinising his subjects and their surroundings carefully. Orlowski's detailed paintings aim not to merely capture faces and places, but to reveal their inner lives and private histories.

Orlowski's Polish Reflections captures the artist in oil on linen. With this exquisitely detailed portrait, Orlowski turns his scrutinising gaze inwards, capturing his likeness mid-thought, lips pursed, tongue partly exposed.
