"Painting is a long process for me. I tend to tackle the same painting in different states of mind and impose my changing mood or mood on the painting. Only then will I will get layered emotional depth in my work that does justice to the complexity of humanity. With my emotional approach being always slightly different, I want to achieve a depth in the painting that is not a conclusion, not an unambiguous mood, but rather a question mark. This allows me to visualize a kaleidoscopic internal thought in the sitter.
You never know how much time you need to be convinced that a painting is finished. So they never really are. That is especially the case when I do a self portrait. A shifting mood mixed with the variations in self appreciation are a guarantee of a slow proces in which I try to explore as much as possible about myself. I find the times we live in very worrying on many levels. This is inevitability reflected in my facial expression."
