The beauty of a simple portrait is that it is about the atmospheric approach to a person. A certain look, how the mouth or eyebrows are contorted, where the head is tilted - all this allows interpretations to be made about the character of the person portrayed. A frame, or rather a framing, on the other hand, with its easily interpretable attributes, offers space for what cannot necessarily be read from a person's outward appearance - for profession, passions or identifying features. A symbol-laden frame can also cause confusion and create psychological contrasts. In my nine-part self-portrait, I fantasize a self-crowning that stands in stark contrast to the questioning look on my face. The hands carry attributes - a book, which can stand for the longing for foreign worlds, the lipstick - femininity, a paintbrush - the passion for paiting and the cigarette - for irrationality and pleasure - with which and whose meaning I identify. The two flanking storks accompany me as heralds of good news and the naked youths in the predella reveal an ironic feminism.
