"In an ode to creative block this self portrait captures the frustration of an artist in a studio with nothing to paint. The glazed eyes, blank canvas in the background, evidence of previous productivity decorating the walls and the work of art hero’s staring from the walls all encapsulate the unfortunate reality of artists.
This composition was originally intended for my ‘it’s complicated’ friend, inspired by a promised date to see the opera ‘Tosca’ that never materialised. In this self-portrait, I linger in the stillness of waiting, reflecting on an empty friendship and the unfulfilled themes of the opera - lust, jealousy, and corruption.
The glazed eyes, the blank canvas in the background, remnants of past productivity decorating the walls, and the watchful presence of art heroes all speak to the inner turmoil of an overthinking artist. This piece captures the obsessive dwelling on a moment that never happened and the void it leaves behind.
Creative and emotional pain haunt this self-portrait, encapsulating the frustration of an artist alone in her studio - with no one but herself to hold and to paint."
