Ithel Colquhoun’s Self-Portrait (c. 1926) is currently on tour with Virginia Woolf: An exhibition inspired by her writings.
Curated by Laura Smith, the exhibition is inspired by the writing of Virginia Woolf. Exploring feminist perspectives on landscape, domesticity and identity in modern and contemporary art the display intends to provide insight into Woolf’s writing.
The exhibition opened in Tate St Ives in February 2019, touring to Pallant House Gallery , Chichester, in May, before opening for its final instalment at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, in October.
As one of Colquhoun’s most psychologically penetrating works, and as one of just five female artists represented in the Original Collection, the work is an important inclusion in the exhibition.
The Ruth Borchard Collection archive includes four letters between Colquhoun and Ruth Borchard which discuss the self-portrait as well as the mystical legacies of Judaism. To find out more please contact info@ruthborchard.org.uk .
