"To make this self portrait of four heads, I grew wheat seeds in life size hollow moulds of my likeness. The process and materials embody my belief that as human beings we are a part of the earth, and not separate from it. The roots and shoots followed the shape of the moulds, like drawn lines, moving through the innate and unconscious gesture of tropism, - perhaps a metaphor for the creative act.

With these living self-portraits I contemplate on time and my connection to the natural world. Wheat, which has sustained and always been deeply intertwined with human existence, becomes both medium and metaphor."
