Ferrer is profoundly interested in spiritual experience and religious rites. Her self-portrait is a reflection on the transformational moment captured within Giotto’s “Baptism of Christ” which she saw for the first time in person at the Cappella degli Scrovegni in Padova this past summer of 2024. Shaken by the transparent quality of the water, a significant symbol which recurs throughout her work, Ferrer’s self-portrait is a meditation on metamorphosis, change, growth, renewal, and rebirth, in the same color of green that Giotto utilized.
