"After a cancer diagnosis, of which I am now thankfully in remission, I am now exploring and reflecting upon themes around my legacy and my history. Much of my work involves revisiting, destroying, and reusing earlier pieces. This helps to create a visual diary and consolidate recurring concepts and ideas, it is a way of understanding, acknowledging and forging a deeper connection with my practice.

A self portrait was a tough call, but I felt it important to remember & capture my spirit, lived experience during a difficult time, and to reflect upon my hope and resolve in a future that sometimes feels uncertain. The size of the canvas was an important decision too. My preferred size is over 100cm and for the portrait, I tentatively chose a smaller surface. The intimacy of the smaller canvas allowed me to explore nuances often hidden, capturing the essence of my spirit. In this reflection, I found clarity, celebration and a visual narrative of hope."
